Winter may be here but there's lots happening in CEF and on offer from other organisations such as Blackrock Observatory or the UCC Lecture Series to entice you out for November.

Latest news, we have extended the deadline for nominations for the Environmental Awards to Friday 9th November so just over a week to go. Also if you are interested incoming to the Seminar on Water please book in, the Seminar is free, but places may be limited. There is a great line up of speakers for the seminar.

Further details as follows:
Monday 5th November - Global Action Plan Training, Fionn Uisce, Bandon 7.30pm – 9pm.
This 6 week programme is being run in conjunction with Bandon Family Resource Centre and support from County Cork VEC. During the 6 weeks participants will examine, in an interactive and relaxed atmosphere, changes they can make that will reduce consumption costs of everyday resources and that will also have a positive impact on the environment. Topics to be covered are water, energy, waste, transport, consumerism and community. Places are limited so please book by contacting the facilitator Eilish Munday at 085 7077962.

Friday 9th November - Seminar on Water, Imperial Hotel, Cork from 9.30am – 1pm.
The Changing Framework of Water Provision and Management in Ireland, Ivan Grimes, Water Services Policy Section, DECLG
Climate Change and Water Efficiency – Why & How? Jacob Tompkins, Waterwise  UK
The Water Framework Directive – Achievements & Challenges Sean O’Breasail
Fluoride in Drinking Water, History of Water Fluoridation and Implications for Ireland, Declan Waugh, Environmental Scientist
There will be a number of facilitated round table discussions on Water Policy, Water Conservation and Fluoridation.
There is no charge for attending, however, it is necessary to register by emailing bernadette@cef.ie or contacting Bernie Connolly at 083 1468064.

Environmental Awards 2012
The closing date for receipt of nominations has been extended to Friday 9th November. Thanks to all who have already sent in nominations. Please do continue to acknowledge the great work being carried out by individuals, private companies, community and voluntary groups, the public sector and local community gardens that protect, maintain and enhance our environment. Nomination Form. 

Thursday 18th October: our next consultation session on “Framing the Future” will take place in Mallow on the 13th November at 7.30pm at the Nano Nagle Centre. It is very important to get the views and feedback from you the members and supporters of the organisation. Please let me know if you intend to come along and please let others know who may be interested. If you are in the general area I would appreciate if you could display the poster in a public place. Thanks!

Wednesday 14th November – Green Drinks at Tom Barry’s Pub, Barrack Street from 7pm.

Thursday 29th November 2012 – Adult Christmas Re-Use Decoration Workshop  
Coming up in December our by now regular Christmas Upcycling Workshops at the Lifetime Lab on Saturday December 1st and the Environmental Awards night will take place on 13th December 2012 at the Firkin Crane Centre.

Corona Cork Film Festival to screen “Trashed” on November 18th
This years  57th Cork Film Festival, November 11th to 18th, Is to include as part of its documentary section  “Trashed”. Narrated by Jeremy Irons, it sees him set out to discover the extent and effects of the global waste problem, as he travels around the world to beautiful destinations tainted by pollution. Trashed will screen on Sunday November 18th at 2:00pm at Cork¹s Gate Cinema. As part of the focus on this documentary, the Film Festival are delighted to welcome the director Candida Brady to introduce Trashed at the screening.
