Please find following some notices including a debate on Wednesday at UCC, Green Drinks at the end of the month and a Seminar on Regional Government Reform. Links to the Cork TEDx talks which feature Michael Hobbs debating the merits of being a stakeholder versus the role of being a protestor. New horticulture course at Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa, EPA consultation on Fracking and see the You Tube on the development of a new gravity light.

Wed. 16^th January:  Debate at UCC "Water, wave & wind power - a viable energy solution for Ireland?" 7.30pm at the Kane Building,                                        Room G01. Chaired by George Hook. Part of a series of debates are being organised by Future of Rural Energy in Europe      
                                  (FREE) throughout colleges in Ireland including UL, NUIG, Queens University, Belfast and UCC.

Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa: Introduction to Horticulture Brochure

EPA Public Consultation on proposed Terms of Reference for a Programme of Research on Environmental Impacts of Unconventional Gas Exploration & Extraction.
A dedicated e-mail address, UGEEconsultation@epa.ie, has been set up to receive all submissions on the Terms of Reference document.  Interested parties and individuals are invited to submit comments to the EPA using this e-mail address only.  Deadline for submissions 8th March 2013       

Gravity Light, You Tube Link – developed as an alternative to kerosene powered light in Africa, perhaps this can also have wider application here.

Dear CEF Member Archive,
Happy New Year and hoping you had a pleasant and enjoyable Christmas break.

To greet 2013 please find a long overdue Newsletter. In this Newsletter we take a quick glance back to 2012, we feature articles on Water, Food and Energy, and look forward to what looks like being a productive and busy year as the environmental challenges become all the more acute.

If you have any problems opening the link do let me know, this is a seperate link to the full Report from Solar Without Frontiers.  As we send regular updates in our circulars and also post Newsletters from other organisations on the website we do not wish to overburden you with information, for those of you who signed up just to receive our Newsletter please advise if you wish to be included in our regular cicrcular list. We are working on streamlining the posting of the Newsletters particularly from the Irish Environmental Newwork, the European Environment Agency, the OECD and ICLEI, Local Governments for Sustainability.

The following projects are looming on the horizon and we would appreciate any interest, support and involement.
· St. Patrick’s Day Parade Float
· National Tree Week
· Mix Your Mode—a new mobility initiative, made possible with European Commission funding, taking place during the month of March with a wide range of partners to promote the use of different modes of transport to get to school, the office, the shops or the gym!
· Lifelong Learning Festival 18th—24th March —CEF is planning to facilitate some workshops during the week.
· Seminar "Cities of the Future: the EcCoWell Approach" 20th March 2013—speakers representing the environment, health, learning and the economy, examining how to plan and develop cities fit for the future needs of our communities.
· World Water Day 22nd March —highlighting Water Cooperation.

A reminder that the Tree Council of Ireland Tree Project Grant Scheme has a deadline of 20th January. CEF would like to hear from any local projects or communities who may be interested in planting to encourage biodiversity, maybe along the lines of "Trees for Bees".
