Dear CEF Member Archive,
Happy Earth Day - highlighting the Face of Climate Change. A day when EU Environment Ministers met under the Irish presidency! Events celebrated at Blackrock Castle will be featured on the RTE News at 9pm so you might just catch it or if not there's always the Player.

It continues to be a busy and eventful time of year, please find following some details of events and activities that CEF is directly involved with and some notices from other organisations.

Screening of Trashed
Thursday 25th April at 6pm – Midleton Library
Tuesday 30th April at 7.30pm – The Venue, O’Donovan’s Hotel, Clonakilty
After the film there will be an opportunity to discuss some of the issues raised by this informative and hard hitting exploration of how we deal with our waste. Free events& all are welcome to attend.

Global Action Plan
Thanks to support from Cork County Council, CEF is running a Pilot Training of GAP for Guesthouses with B&B and guesthouse owners in Clonakilty from Wednesday 24th April. The Bandon GAP group will again showcase eco-products with a stand at Bandon Show on Sunday 19th May 2013. A childrens art & craft competition to make a farm animal from re-cycled materials in being run in conjunction with the stand and prizes include a visit to Rumleys Farm and a number of vouchers. Composting
May is composting month and events are supported by Cork County Council throughout the county. Eilish Munday, GAP Facilitator, will facilitate a composting session at Bandon Garden Centre on Sunday 12th May. D.J. Murphy will be providing some special discounts on the day and there may also be a talk by a celebratory gardener.

EcCoWell & Cities for the Future Conference 26th & 27th September
Peter Kearns, who formulated the concept of EcCoWell, was the keynote speaker at a seminar organised in Cork as part of the 10th Cork Lifelong Learning Festival, on Wednesday March 20th, 2013. As a follow-up to the seminar an international EcCoWell Conference and Ideas Exchange will take place in Cork City on September 26 & 27, 2013

UCC Law & The Environment 2013 Towards Coherent Reform of Environmental Law
The 11th Annual Conference for Environmental Professionals takes palce on Thursday 25th April at the Boole Library, UCC. More details on the website.

Ireland’s Badgers – fighting a losing battle?
The war on BovineTb (Btb) has always been an emotive issue. It has pitted farmers and conservationists against each other since Btb was first discovered in badgers in the early seventies. Fintan Kelly - IWT Research Officer - will explain the conflict, Ireland’s total disregard for the Bern convention, the failure of the Bern Standing Committee to carry out its mandate to protect the badger, and how the issue is being tackled by our nearest neighbours.Come along and hear Fintan's latest updates on IWT Campaign against Badger Culling in Ireland and join the debate!

This event is for free and everybody is very welcome to attend.

Working with Lime
IRD Duhallow, in association with the Building Limes Forum Ireland, is organising a 2-day lime seminar at the James O’Keeffe Institute, Newmarket, County Cork, on May 10th and 11th next which you are cordially invited to attend. The seminar will be of interest to anyone looking after historic buildings and to all those who would like to understand more about lime and its traditional use in Irish building, including why it is important, how best to repair it, and when to renew it.More details.

An Taisce - Clean Coasts Week 2013!

It’s the 10th anniversary of Clean Coasts so why not get involved and help celebrate! An Taisce will be sending out the clean up kits in early May in time for the week from the 10th -17th May .All groups that register will be entered in a draw to win an Ipad. A winner will be announced at the end of Clean Coasts Week so keep an eye on the Facebook page for the announcement! There will also be a series of competitions taking place on the  Facebook page throughout the week with some more great prizes to be won.Contact Alison Hyland if you have any questions or you would like to register a coastal clean up in your area just visit www.cleancoastsweek.ie or call us on (01)4002205.
