Dear CEF Member Archive,
There is a busy schedule of CEF events and associated organisations events this week and next. I hope you can attend some of these sessions, in particular the collaborative consultation tomorrow evening at the Lifetime Lab is important as is our AGM next Thursday at Blackrock Observatory. 

Framing our Future
Date:        Wednesday 26th September 2012  
Venue:      Lifetime Lab, Lee Road, Cork
Times:       7pm – 9.30pm 

Partly inspired by Cultivate's initiative Collaborating for the Future, this is an opportunity for you to express your opinions and views as to what the environmental priorities for Cork should be going forward and what role CEF might play.

Annual General Meeting 2012 
Date:        Thursday, 4^th October 2012  
Venue:      Blackrock Observatory, Blackrock, Cork
Times:       7pm – 9pm  
There will be some light refreshments on arrival and a film screening of "Surviving Progress" at 7.15pm, with the AGM commencing at 8pm.
We have a number of vacancies on the Board and welcome any member with an interest to consider standing for election under one of our 4 pillars: Public Sector, Community & Voluntary, Private Sector or Individual. Everyone is welcome to attend but only  currently paid-up members can vote at the AGM.  Please use the website to renew on line or forward your subscription for this year.  Membership cards will be issued to paid up Members at the AGM.

Green Drinks
Date:        Wednesday 10th October 2012  
Venue:      Tom Barry's, Barrak Street, Cork
Times:       From 7pm 

 
INFF have an Open Day at Manch, Ballineen this Sunday 30th September, details under our Noticeboard on the website

There is also a National Trails Day event at the Mealagh Valley organised by the local community in conjunction with the Irish Wildlife Trust again details on our local Noticeboard.

Thanks again to everyone who participated and supported the Rebel Pedal event in the City. Whilst numbers were down somewhat the atmosphere and message that the event aims to deliver was evoked very well. The following is a link to the pictures taken by Andy Ferriera which really do speak a thousand words. I have included those who registered for the Rebel Pedal in this email, however, if you do not wish to receive any further correspondence from CEF please unsubscribe. 

I will be in touch again shortly with details of our 1001 Acorn Project, Global Action Plan Training and our Hallow'een Childrens upcycling workshop.

I am pleased to announce our forthcoming AGM.   We hope that you will make the time to attend this important meeting.  There will be some light refreshments on arrival and a film screening at 7.15pm, prior to the AGM at 8pm. Details of the film to be screened will be forwarded shortly.
 
We ask that you please do attend the AGM and if possible be prepared to stand for election to the Management Committee.  Information on what the Management Committee does and the responsibilities of its members can be supplied. The full list of current Members will be available at the AGM.
 
Only currently paid-up members can vote at the AGM.  Please use the website to renew on line or forward your subscription for this year.  Membership cards will be issued to paid up Members at the AGM.
 
Please see a copy of the minutes of last year’s AGM.  Also a form for to use for voting at the AGM by proxy for members who are unable to attend in person.  If you wish to use this form it must be returned as indicated by Friday 28^th September 2012.
 
If you would like to propose any motions or make any other proposals to be included in the AGM, these must be also be returned to the address below by Friday 28^th September 2012 fully signed by a proposer and a seconder, both of whom must be current paid up members of the Forum.  Motions and proposals may also be accepted from the floor at the AGM at the discretion of the Chairperson.
 
We look forward to seeing you at this AGM which is an important event for CEF.

Rebel Pedal this Saturday 15th Cycle & Picnic

Green Drinks are on Wednesday at Tom Barry's see below.

It's less than a week before the Rebel Pedal, so it’s time to get out your bike and join in this fun and relaxed cycle around the city. The Deputy Lord Mayor, Emmet O’Halloran will set the cyclists off at 12noon from the Grand Parade on a tour of the inner city loop taking in the South Mall continuing down the quays then making its way back to the South Mall via North Main Street and Washington Street with the final leg going down Centre Park Road and ending at the Marina with a post pedal picnic near the Atlantic Pond.

This event helps to highlight cycling as an everyday and sustainable means of transport. It is such a flexible way of getting around the city, more people are choosing to cycle to and from work, for shopping, for leisure and to provide services e.g. courier.  Hopefully the sun will shine again and encourage you to come along and enjoy the sights and sounds of our lovely city on a bike! As well as the regular support from the Gardai on motorcycle we will be joined by additional Gardai and St. John Ambulance first aid responders on bicycles, showing how important services such as these can be effectively carried out by using what is affectionately referred to as “the beautiful machine”.

Anyone and everyone is welcome on the cycle - experienced cyclists and those who will dig out an old bike from the garage or borrow one.  One proviso is that children would be able and comfortable cycling without stabilisers. The success of the event, which has been running since 2000, can be measured in the cross section of the community that turns out each year families, students, children, grandparents and visitors to the city. Registration commences from 11am.

Thanks to Cork City Council and the Sports Partnership, our partners in the Rebel Pedal, we will have “goody bags” for the kids with the first 50 children registering getting a RSA high-viz vest. The adults will get a printed cotton bag and if lucky a few treats too! We also appreciate additional sponsorship received from Cork Metal Company and the support from ESB Networks by providing their electric van. We couldn’t run this event without the tremendous support from the voluntary team of stewards, so thanks to all who have volunteered to date. 

There will be a post pedal picnic and entertainment at the Atlantic Pond. The Entertainment will include music from “Good Rain”, a Puppet workshop, Bike workshops, Face-painting etc. we also encourage people to bring along frisbees, balls and other outdoor games.  Friends & family are welcome to join in the afternoon relaxation and fun.Bring a picnic or purchase from site vendors such as the Eco –bus restaurant, Natural Food Bakery Ice Cream Bicyle etc. Further details and updates are available on the website.

In 2010 the Cork Sports Partnership joined as a partner and the Rebel Pedal became part of the Rebel Tour initiative. This year the Rebel Tour cycles will be based out of Glengariff and incorporates longer challenging cycles of 55km, 85km and 160km. For the first time 3 other family fun orientated “Rebel Pedals” will take place on the 15^th & 16^th September outside the city as follows:
Sept 15^th              Glengarriff – 1pm start. Registration from 11am @ The Eccles Hotel, Glengarriff
Sept 16^th -            Ballingeary – 1pm start. Registration from 12 @ Ballingeary National School
                                Kanturk – 10 start @ Kanturk Credit Union Outdoor Velodrome
