Dear CEF Member Archive,
I would like to let you know that Cork County Council has introduced an ‘Adopt a Road’ Scheme, which involves a Business or Voluntary/Community group adopting a designated stretch of road, for the primary purpose of removing litter from the roadside verges.

In recent months Cork Chamber has led the development of the proposal and worked in partnership with the Cork Environmental Forum, Regional Chambers of Commerce, Tidy Towns and other interested stakeholders to bring the scheme to the Council for approval. The Adopt A Road scheme provides an avenue for organisations, community groups and businesses to help maintain sections of roadside within County Cork’s road network with the support of the local authority.

Benefits of the Scheme
The scheme benefits all parties by reducing litter and in addition to the aesthetic advantage of cleaner roadsides, the scheme helps to stop pollutants from entering local waterways, improves the quality of vegetation, and prevents soil degradation and erosion. It advertises and highlights the efforts of the participating Business or Group and, also promotes civic responsibility, community pride and sociability.

If you are involved with a group, or know of anyone else that might be interested please let them know about the scheme. Further information and application forms are available from Cork County Council see following.

Contact Details
Any Groups interested in participating in the Scheme should first contact Cork County Council’s local Area Engineer’s office, Click here for Contact Details, to discuss their proposals. Application Forms / Advice & Guidance Leaflet

The regional stakeholders are currently engaging with Cork City Council with a view to developing a similar scheme in the city.
